Our Approach to Conflict Resolution

For us, facilitative mediation is the starting point. However, every conflict is unique, and what works for one situation may not work for another. There are many approaches to conflict resolution, each offering different tools depending on the needs, goals, and dynamics involved.

Why We Start with a Facilitative Approach to Mediation

Conflict often turns on simple misunderstandings. A facilitative model puts listening and questioning first, to chart a path for a shared agreement or resolution. Mediators help ensure that each person is given the space to clarify needs, limits, and interests. Mediators never steer parties toward a pre-determined outcome; our mediators guide the conversation so participants generate their own solutions. This approach builds ownership, increases follow-through, and keeps the door open for future dialogue—results that punitive or directive models rarely achieve.

Our Relationship with the Justice System

The CDRC partners with local courts to provide a voluntary, non-adversarial option for people who might otherwise end up in litigation. Judges refer cases to us; we, in turn, mentor volunteer mediators on real disputes under court oversight. The courts gain reduced dockets and more durable agreements, while participants gain voice and control. This collaboration keeps mediation accessible and ensures our practices align with legal standards of fairness and due process.

How We Support Our Community.

At the CDRC, we support individuals, groups, organizations, and the community in navigating challenging conversations with clarity and care.Whether you're facing tension, seeking to rebuild trust, or simply wanting to communicate more effectively, we offer a support to create space to reflect, listen, and move forward—together.Conflict is part of life. How we respond can shape something better.
